NUTRIENTS
Nutrition is an essential energy value for the human body and a source of substances which are required for the structuring and maintaining of the human body, and for the maintaining of life processes.*

Essential nutrients include amino acids (proteins), carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, electrolytes and minerals (including trace elements).*

PROTEINS
Proteins consist of amino acids.*

AMINO ACIDS
General
Proteins are needed for the growth and renewal of tissue and for the maintaining of countless bodily functions. The body needs amino acids in order to be able to synthesize these. A distinction can be made between essential and non-essential amino acids. Eight amino acids are essential (cannot be manufactured by the body) and the rest are non-essential (can be manufactured by the body if it is provided with the correct nutrition).*

The amino acids which occur in nature are the L amino acids. Only the L form of amino acids are constituents of proteins.*

Most foodstuffs contain proteins. The main contributions in common foodstuffs come from bread, grains, dairy products and meat.*

Application
Most amino acids are used in combination preparations which contain several (both essential and non-essential) amino acids.*
